Acreage Trends

The following chart summarizes the trend in barley area planted and harvested in North Dakota.  The data is from USDA National Ag Statistics Services (NASS).  Barley has largely become a specialty crop in North Dakota, as it is mostly produced under contract to the malting and brewing industry.  Feed barley has been displaced by corn as an animal feed, and thus less acreage is devoted to feed barley.
